A Few Reasons Why I Hate Rick Santorum (or at least his ideas)

I hate Rick Santorum.

Well, that’s not really accurate. It can’t be. Our interaction has been distant, and completely one-sided. I’ve never met the man, and although he seems abnormally hung up about homosexuals he might be a decent guy on the balance. I really couldn’t say.

I do, however, hate his policy ideas, which are openly anti-liberty. I also hate what he represents, which is the advocation of government as something of a protective father, giving us “the freedom to attend to one’s duties.” That phrase reminds me of the Baathist in Iraq, et al. who defined freedom somewhat narrowly as national self-determination free from outside influence, and not as personal liberty. Not exactly the colloquial definition. I think we would do well to be extremely leery of a man who wants to impose upon us his own particular definition of “duty” and “rightness.” Also, judging by what he has said during a speech, it wouldn’t be a great stretch to say he advocates theocracy.

“… a country that is given rights under the god, under god, not any god, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, and that God that gave us rights also gave us a responsibility, and laws, by which our civil laws have to comport with. A higher law. God’s law.”

Distressing? I think so.

And here are some links, which shall go un-discussed due to present time constraints:

Rick Santorum v. Limited Government
A Frothy Mixture of Collectivism and Conservatism
Santorum’s Big-Government Conservatism
Santorum: “States Do Not Have the Right to Do Wrong”
Santorum: Judicial Branch Is Weakest Because Article III Comes Third

So the lesson of the day is “Whatever you do, don’t vote for Santorum.”
